Search engines
The WWW
is the right place to find information about any subject or area. But,
as the number of web sites is so large, finding the desired information
is not always easy.
A search
engine is a program that goes over the web reading and indexing whatever
it finds. There are many different search engines. They organize the information
in two different ways:
And, how does a search engine
work?. The best way to learn is by doing some practice. You are going
to use Altavista and Infoseek, and then, compare and contrast the results.
Remember that the engines do not all the work. In order to find what you
want to find you need a bit of imagination, a bit of intuition and... a
lot of patience!.
Now that you have
used two different search engines, what do you think? Which one do you
prefer? Why?
Comment on it with your
partners.
