A Model of Visual Analysis for Art Images:

The Birth of Venus, by Botticelli.

It is necessary to give the students the different ressources which they need to study the works at the Art History classes; the stress in the perceptual aspects and in the visual structure of the images is crucial. The session tries to connect cultural diversity and visual skills and, also, to take into account multimedia. I developped a model which deals with these elements, to apply them to different periods (translatability), cultures and media and which I practically present implemented to The Birth of Venus.

The model has the following parts:

1. Catalogation and Material Analysis(image's identification and physical conditions);

2. Description(perceptual content manifestation);

3. Structure;

4. Context; and

5. Synthesis (unified relation of the earlier parts).
