Why use the ICT and the Internet in the classroom?
  • Because most of our students are great fans of it.
  • Because it offers students a huge amount of possibilities and resources for language learning.
  • Because it offers teachers even a wider variety of resources.

Pros and cons of using the Internet in the classroom
  • There are a lot of ready-made resources for EFL.

  • It is quick and easy to find materials in many web pages.

  • Not all web pages are good quality.
  • The contents of most of the websites are easily adaptable to our needs or to our students' interests.

  • Requires more time and efforts from the teacher (which are widely rewarded).
  • We can find the latest news, films, songs... which offer motivating resources for our students (and for us teachers, too!).

  • The materials change all too often.
  • The huge amount of information available on the net makes it difficult to find what we need.
  • It's good to use authentic materials for a change.

  • The language level may be too difficult.
  • Students love working with computers.

  • We may have technical problems, or not feel self-confident enough in the use of computers.
  • We can work and communicate with people from all over the world.

  • It is difficult to find a class similar to ours in number of students, age, interests, time of year...
  • Participation in projects fosters cooperation and a greater learner autonomy.

  • It is more difficult to control the individual student's work.
