CATALONIA

Catalonia is situated in the North-East of Spain, to the South of France.

The most important rivers are “Ebro” and “Llobregat”, and the most important mountains are the Pyrenees. Barcelona is by the Mediterranean sea.

The capital of Catalonia is Barcelona. The president is Pascual Maragall.

Barcelona has got very important monuments. These are: “Sagrada Familia” and “Christopher Columbus’s statue”.

Catalonia is divided in provinces: Lleida, Girona, Tarragona and Barcelona. The language of Catalonia is Catalan.

This year there is an important event in Barcelona : Forum 2004. It offers a new and creative space to stop to think and to experiment on the main cultural and social conflicts that the world has to confront in this 21st century.

The basic products of Catalonia are: wine and oil.

In Catalonia there are approximately six million people. There are people from many different cultures: Catalans, Chinese, Americans, Africans, Bulgarians, Rumanians etc…
