How to get there
We have to go to La Pobla de Segur. Coming from Tremp and once crossed the bridge over the Flamicell, we turn right by a road that goes to Pont de Claverol, Claverol and Ortoneda (or Hortoneda). We get there after 13 Km of a curvy road. (see map Ortoneda)

Technical data
Time: 6:40 hours
Slope: 1200 meter
Distance: 23 Km
Difficulty: F-3, T-2. The technical difficulty comes from the fact that a few times the paths are difficult to follow or even inexistent so is necessary to use the own-orientation sense, which is easy if the day is clear because most of the time there is a general view.
Mobile coverage: not verified.
Points of Interest
The Cap de Boumort is one of the best observatories of the Pyrennees. At the higher part there are quite a few fields which look almost alpìne. The lower part is rough. There is a variety of landscapes. It's a national hunting reserve. We were able to see a few vultures and a couple deers.

Recomendations
The hiker must be in good shape because it's a long way with quite enough slope, eventhough is not too abrupt. It's absolutely necessary to carry a good provision of water. Will find some water sources but without any higienic guarantee at all. In wintertime we might find some snow, while in the summer it can be really warm.

Description of the route

Ortoneda - Sant Cristòfol - Cap de Boumort - Era del Comú - Ortoneda.

Ortoneda. 0:00h; 980a. We leave Ortoneda just where the asphalt of the track ends. At the right side of the village. We follow the non-pavimented track , cross the barranc de la Coma de l'Olla, and 15 minutes later (900meter) we arrive to the barranc of the Creu de Segan at a brisk curve. We continue in the track for a while and before arriving to the next barranc, we leave the track and go up at right by a path which turns SE, initially over the right side of the barranc de la Creu de Segan and afterwards it goes in direction to a secondary barranc which originates at the Borda de Jaume de Saria. The path crosses this small barranc (15'; 1100a) and goes to find the crest of the Serrat de Segan. Once there it turns SE and goes up by the sunny hillside and close to the crest. All the way we have the barranc of the Creu de Segan at our right.

Bordes. 1:15h; 1385a. Some 45 minutes later we arrive to a terraced area. The path gets lost so we keep going up through the terraces, continuing in the same direction. Pretty soon we pass by the Borda de Manyac, in ruins. 15 minutes later we arrive to the Bordes de Segan. To go to Sant Cristòfol we depart from the higher part of the borda and walk N to arrive to the crest which we are seeing over us. Once there we see a chapel direction N. We arrive to it by walking through the terraces.

Sant Cristòfol. 1:45h. 1550a. Is a small and primitive chapel, pretty well maintained inside. It's located at a pass under the Montpedrós. Direction NW there is an impressive vision over the Barranc de la Llau de Perauba, with a surprising cylindrical tower right under the cliff. Looking E we see the crest going up to the Cap de Boumort, which we will trek later on.To get there we take direction SSE on the track that arrives to the chapel but we leave it inmediately to take the crest of the Serra de la Travessa. Once there we take again the track until it becomes flat (1700a). Then we leave it and continue by the same crest and afterwards by the one of the Serra de Boumort, amidst red pinetrees. Being careful, following the animal trails, there is no problem.

Pista. 2:55h; 1910a. This track comes from Ortoneda. At right we can see a shelter which we will find when descending. Cross the track and continue cresting, looking for the easiest spots, till we get to the sommet, where we may rest and enjoy the view.

Cap de Boumort. 3:35h; 2077a. To go back we walk down to a small pass we see at SE , afterwards we move W to arrive to the shelter we mentioned before, by a pool. (20'; 1885a). Then we leave the main track and take one that by the side of the pool goes in direction to Sant Cristòfol. From this point and for quite a while will see at left the deep valley of Carreu as well as the mountain of the same name. Pretty soon will see the Coll de l'Era del Comú, where we want to go. After 25 ' (1700a) we find a trough. Some 200 meters more and we leave the track by taking a vague path at left which descends into a field. From there we turn left to descend directly to the Coll de l'Era del Comú by the left side of a barranc, amidst an abundant bulb vegetation.

Era del Comú. 4:45h; 1500a. It's a broad pass where several paths get together. We take a track which goes up SW towards the Turo de la Cogulla, which we leave at our right. Then we descend and once at the lowest part of the pass (33'; 1465a) there is at left an abrupt descent which goes down to the bottom of the valley of Carreu river. There is a big milestone and a pole indicating"Reserva Nacional de Caça". We continue on the track in very slight ascent and 7' later (1475a) we leave it and go left, without aparent path, on the beginning of the crest of the Serra del Banyader. We leave a pool at 40 m at our left and a few terraces at the head of the barranc of the Llau dels Tolls (W) and walk NNW to find the crest, where we also encounter a track.

Serra del Banyader. 5:30h ; 1475a. We take this track (N) which follows along all the crest. An ample view from here: Ortoneda just in front of us, the Roc de Santa at its left. In the back the Congost de Collegats whth its mountains around, with the outstanding Serra de Peracalç at its left. At the very back, the Pyrennees. The track keeps going down. Will take us slightly over one hour to arrive to the track of the departing point , some ten minutes at left of Ortoneda.

Ortoneda. 6:40h. End of the itinerary

Date of the hike This hike was done on 15 May 2003, together with RR and XL.
Useful maps
Neither of the two maps of the area is good enough. The Piolet's 1:25.000 does not show many of the paths which surprisingly can be better found in ICC's 1:50.000 which is correct but the starting pointof the ascent to the barranc de la Llau de Segan is misplaced.
