The RiverIsavenaValley

 

On Friday, 30th March, the pupils of Primary 6th level went with their teachers (Montse Vidal, Mercè Prats, Rosa Mari Villacampa and César Celma) to a school trip to the RiverIsavenaValley, the tributary of River Esera. Both rivers provide supply water to Barasona dam, the reservoir that provides water to Aragon and Catalonia canal. We visited Barasona dam, Capella medieval bridge, Roda medieval bridge, Ovarra monastery, bridge and gorge, Serraduy medieval bridge, Roda d´Isavena medieval village and cathedral, J Costa statue in Graus, renaissance town square and Rock Basilica with their galleries, Graus medieval bridge and finally La Sierra medieval bridge. The trip was prepared, explained and evaluated in English. The weather was fantastic; the pupils were attentive, followed the explanations and answered the questions very acceptably. It was a nice and interesting trip and very encouraging from the use of a foreign language point of view.

 

 

 

Dams' school trip

 

On Friday, 23rd March, pupils of Primary 5th level with the teachers (Pilar Gascón, Sònia Corti, Rosa Mari Villacampa and César Celma) went on a school trip to the most important constructions having to do with the Aragon and Catalonia canal: Santa Anna dam, connexion canal, Coll de Foix aqueduct, Castillonroy siphon, Barasona dam, Saint Joseph power station, Perera aqueduct,irrigation community headquarters in Binefar and Albelda siphon. The preparation of the trip was in English at school, the development of the activity was in the three languages of school (English, Catalan and Spanish) and the evaluation will be in English. This trip is one of the most important parts of the Interdisciplinary Project about the origin of water and infrastructures of the canal. It was the first time that the activity was done in English and the results are quite encouraging. The experience has to do with a School Experimental Project to teach some units of Science in English.

 

 

 

 

Historical Tour

 

Friday, 16th March, in the morning the pupils of primary 6th and their teachers, Montse Vidal and Mercè Prats, and the secondary school English teacher, Marta Satolària, went on a guided historical tour through Almacelles. The experience was conducted by the responsible of the future Museum, Montse Gené , and the school English teacher, César Celma. The tour had been prepared in English at school. The explanations in the visit were in Catalan and English. The most important places were: the silos covers, the Museum and Roman milestone, Mercy Street, Clara’s house, Town Square, the church, High Street, the lord’s grain store, the lord’s palace, Culture House, the lord’s palace balcony, Enlightenment Square and Goddess Athena. The evaluation of the activity was in English getting good marks, in general. At the beginning of the tour, Mr Josep Ibarz, mayor of Almacelles, gave the pupils a short speech encouraging them to know Almacelles history and English, as an international language. The comments about the development of the activity, by Montse Gené and Marta Santolària, were very good.
